I first got involved with Surfrider over 5 years ago at a Manly beach for the Fight for the Bight paddle out. If you don’t know much about Surfrider Foundation, Surfrider was born from the surf community and today is one of the country’s most established and trusted coastal and ocean advocacy organisations, with over 34 years of experience protecting Australia’s coastlines. We are made up of surfers from all over Australia who care enough to volunteer their time to protect their local beach from its biggest environmental impacts. We have an epic Northern Beaches branch who are responsible for so many of the coastal wins in Freshie and surrounds. I can highly recommend joining them as a volunteer - it's a cool little crew and how I first started working with Surfrider.
We rely on the ocean for so much sometimes we forget the ocean relies on us too. Thank you for helping to protect the places you love through your support of Keel - we really couldn't do it without you!
Surfrider Foundation: Personal Note for Keel Community
Hi Keel Community,
My name is Steph Curley and I run the Surfrider Foundation Australia. Like you, I'm a surfer who loves the ocean and try to spend as much time in or on the water as possible. I used to live in Manly but a few years ago migrated north to be solared powered by the Noosa sunshine.
I wanted to send a personal note to the Keel community as you may not know it, but when you support Keel you are also supporting Surfrider Foundation Australia and a small team of 4 passionate surfers of myself, Drew, Gus and Jools as well as hundreds of dedicated local volunteers all over Australia to protect the coastlines of Australia. This past year, your support has enabled us to win two major offshore oil and gas campaigns, as well as remove thousands of kgs of plastic waste off the beach, work to educate communities on marine protections and fight to stop vertical seawalls in the Northern Beaches.
Sincerely,
Steph Curley
